What is Periodontal Disease | Periodontal Treatment
What is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal diseases are bacterial infections of the gums and the bone
that surrounds the teeth. They are caused mainly by the accumulation
of bacteria called plaque. If not treated right away, the teeth themselves
can be affected.
Plaque is always forming around the teeth, so it must be removed every
day with regular brushing and flossing. If it is allowed to build up,
tartar forms. The bacteria grow forming pockets (spaces between the teeth
and gums) that become infected. As the disease progresses, the pockets
deepen and more gum tissue and bone are destroyed. Often, this destructive
process has mild symptoms. Eventually, teeth can loosen and may need
to be removed.
Gingivitis and Periodontitis are the two main stages of gum disease.
Each stage is characterized by what's happening in you mouth and under
your gumline. Although gingivitis comes before Periodontitis, it's important
to know that not all gingivitis progresses to Periodontitis. In the early stage of gingivitis, the gums become red and swollen and bleed easily, often during tooth brushing. Bleeding, although not always a symptom of gingivitis, it is a signal that your mouth is unhealthy and needs attention. The gums may be irritated, but the teeth are still firmly planted. Still no bone or tissue damage has occurred at this stage.
Periodontitis can be characterized by receding gums, spaces
opening between teeth, discomfort in the gums and loosening
of the teeth. Gum recession
is not normal and would expose the root, making
it more susceptible to decay. Loosening of one or more
teeth could be a sign of
severe bone loss. Spaces occur when the gums and underlying
bone have receded and that would be a sign of an advanced
problem.

Single Tooth Replacement | Multiple Tooth Replacement
Dental implants are a better solution to the problem of missing
teeth. An artificial tooth root is placed into the jaw to hold a
replacement tooth or bridge in place as to provide patient comfort,
function and esthetics.
Intravenous (IV) Conscious Sedation
This is sedative drugs that we directly inject into the vein providing a very effective and safe patient management technique.
Root Coverage | Microsurgery | Interdental Enhancement | Pre-Prosthetic
To help our patient feel and look great, cosmetic periodontal surgery
can be done to cover exposed root surfaces and prevent gum recession.
Bone Regeneration | Sinus Augmentation | Ridge Augmentation
We can predictably grow bone and the attachment to your teeth
back after it is lost to periodontal disease.
Scaling & Root Planning | Antibiotic Therapy | Periodontal
Maintenance
Non - surgical periodontal treatments are available for patients
with mild to moderately severe forms of periodontal disease. Most
patients in the first two stages and some patients in the third
stage can be treated without surgery.
Growth factor Supplementation
The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a concentrated suspension of the growth factors found in platelets is involved in wound healing and as promoters of tissue regeneration.
