Dr. Roberto Porras has an established practice in periodontics
and implant dentistry in the Houston area. Since attaining his
periodontal specialty certification and a Master of Science Degree
from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston,
Dr. Porras has treated a large variety of periodontal diseases
and has avidly continued his education into all aspects of periodontology
and implant dentistry while maintaining his private practice.
He is a surgeon that strongly believes in the benefits of periodontal
regeneration and cosmetic periodontics while keeping implant dentistry
as one of his main professional interests. Dr. Porras is dedicated
to innovative periodontal treatment and implant excellence.
Dr. Porras is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is also an active member of
the American Academy
of Periodontology, the Greater Houston Society of Periodontists,

Houston Dental Society. In addition, Dr. Porras was appointed
to the medical staff of Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital

Why is it important to be a Diplomate?
A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology is a periodontist
that has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational
requirements of the specialty.
To be educationally qualified for Board certification it
is required to be:
- Certified as a dentist that includes college education and dental school
competition.
- Certified as a periodontist after at least 3 years of a program approved
by the American Dental Association. The period of study concentrates on
the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of periodontal disease; regeneration
of supporting tissues of the teeth and their substitutes and maintenance
of health, function and esthetics.
- Comprehensive oral and written examinations of all phases of periodontal
disease and its treatment, including dental implants.
- Recreation of continued competency in periodontics through continuing
education and participation in self-study examination every
3 years.

After completing his undergraduate degree with outstanding marks, spent three years as a periodontology resident at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he attained his periodontal specialty certification and a Master of Science Degree.
